Molehill Survey – Day One

After a considerable amount of planning, not forgetting the gathering of appropriate permissions, our 2023 molehill survey is now underway. Funded by the AONB and with the help of volunteers, activities commenced around 9am and concluded just before 5pm. The weather was generally kind, only the odd shower, but a fierce wind meant that hats and gloves were certainly needed.

The first question people often ask is what is a molehill survey? Well here’s Dr. Jan Harding with the answer!

Unsurprisingly it’s been a very busy day, we will post more in due course but as promised, here again is Jan with his ‘Find of the day.’

Epiacum in the snow

We’ve had snowfall at Epaicum over the last day or two so we were wondering what the landscape may look like from the air. Well, there’s only one way to find out!

While it was certainly cold, very little wind combined with sunny skies creating long shadows made for almost perfect conditions to get a drone in the air to find out. For the results, check out the YouTube video below.

For those of an archaeological disposition we hope you agree it makes some of the features of the landscape very easy to identify.

Enjoy! From the Epiacum Team.
